This old abandoned haul truck sits under a disconnected coal chute. As I took this picture, I imagined how many loads of coal this truck carried, and it has now earned a well-deserved rest as it sits peacefully by the side of a road in Ashland, Pennsylvania. Mining coal has been the financial backbone of Schuylkill County for over two centuries; but, it has experienced a steady decline in the past few decades due to the demand for more efficient alternative fuel sources. Driving through this northeastern region of Pennsylvania, the effects of the job loss are apparent, with many towns such as Shenandoah, Ashland, and Mt Carmel in disrepair. These small towns remain one of my favorite locations for photographs.
